What does this mean?

Hi Susan,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

This desk looks to be a 20th Century version of a late 18th or early 19th Century form; the chevron-style mahogany marquetry is a very nice touch and adds to the elegance of this desk.

At auction, other plain desks of this general form and age have been selling for less than $400 lately.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A Colonial Revival style mahogany veneered escritoire
in the French taste, first half 20th Century
hinged folding-down writing surface opening to a divided interior with short drawers and pigeon holes; with faceted hexagonal brass pulls, tall cabriole legs, marked "777"
Height: 39-1/2 inches; width: 30 inches; depth: 19 inches
CONDITION: Locked; otherwise this appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: acquired at a garage or yard sale
$200-400*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.

Good morning. I just sent over 12 new uploaded images for you to look at for my secretary desk. The front does open, although I do not have a key for it. I have a key on order.

Susan,
Thank you for the additional photos - the interior is not as complex as it might be but worth a slightly higher estimate, which I've revised.
You're all set with this but let me know if you have any questions, and have a great weekend.

Delia,
Thank you for taking another look at my desk. I may have been told it was an antique but I’m no expert . I knew before selling it I needed a professional like you to appraise this. I only paid $100 for the desk so I will keep this for myself and enjoy it.
Thanks again, Susan J.
