Hello, I have a colt Burgess Lever action carbine serial number 1338 in .44/40 caliber. This piece is engraved. I have a factory colt letter on this piece but it does not show that it was factory engraved, I have done quite a bit of research and believe this piece to be engraved by Louis D. Nimschke. I have compared it side-by-side, with a documented Colt Burgess engraved by Nimschke, and as a novice it looks to be his work. Also, the documented Colt Burgess I compared it to was shipped from the manufacture to Hartley & Graham in New York City on August 23, 1883. My colt Burgess was shipped to Hartley & Graham in New York City September 11, 1883. Essentially what I’m looking for is an expert in firearm engraving who can document that my Colt Burgess was indeed engraved by Louis D. Nimschke.
Oh I know that my grandfather purchased it as a second owner in though late 1800s early 1900s from the previous owner in Connecticut (I believe), prior to him moving to Nebraska in purchasing his ranch.
