Hi Valerie,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This pottery punch bowl is transfer decorated and made in Staffordshire, England, a region that became the historic center of Britain’s pottery industry. Multiple makers created a variety of wares, from creamware, pearlware, transfer-printed ceramics, Staffordshire figures (flatbacked mantelpiece figurines) and later bone china by companies such as Royal Doulton. Staffordshire pottery helped industrialize ceramics production in the 18th and 19th centuries and made decorative tableware affordable for the growing middle class and influenced ceramic design worldwide.
Your punch bowl was made by Gildea and Walker, a 19th-century English pottery manufacturer based in Burslem, Staffordshire, in the heart of the historic Staffordshire Potteries. They were active primarily in the 1880s and are known today for producing decorative earthenware tableware and ornamental ceramics with distinctive Victorian aesthetic designs.
This bowl is one of their known patterns. When other examples have come to auction, they have brought prices ranging from $75-100.
