This tea service was made in Indonesia and was created in fine Royal Doulton China to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Disney's Mary Poppins. The service is comprised of four tea cups, four saucers, four 20 cm dessert plates (each separately designed: penguin with menu, penguin with flowers, penguin with tray, penguin with plate) and one tea pot. It comes with Certificate of Authenticity (no. 066) and original packaging. I tried to obtain further information from Royal Daulton around 2009 and was advised only that the service was discontinued in 1999. I had an informal appraisal done through Sotheby’s in 2009 and was advised the service could likely fetch a minimum of £500 in auction at that time.
In 2009, I was the HR Director for an International Reinsurance company in London, England called PWS (Pearson, Webb, Springbett). I worked alongside one of the founders, Lord Malcolm Pearson of Rannoch, and he gifted this to me when we were packing up our offices following the Company's acquisition by THB (Thompson, Heath, Bond) also of London, England. Lord Pearson could not recall where he had obtained the tea service, but confirmed he had likely received it from a client in Asia sometime between 1985 and 1995. I was pregnant with my first child at the time and he told me to take the tea set in case I had a girl. That way the child had something to play with!!
