The Danish designer Kristian Illum Wikkelsø is considered one of the main Scandinavian furniture designers of the 1950s and 1960s, who highly contributed in turning Danish Design into an art renowned worldwide. After graduating from the Danish Design School in 1941, Wikkelsø worked for Jacob Kjær, Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard, and founded his own studio in 1954

Wikkelsø designed furniture for some of the most renowned Danish manufacturers such as C.F. Christensen, Holger Christiansen, and Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik. The Danish designer’s style is characterized by clean lines and soft waves, which make his designs elegant and highly functional. He once said “A chair is for lying, not just sitting. It should be comfortable no matter what angle you sit.”

Wikkelsø’s philosophy is easily recognizable in his V11 Model; original V11 pieces were made through an exclusive process by Danish craftsmen who worked with high quality materials. Wikkelsø’s creations are collected by design enthusiasts in the whole world: rumors say the V11 can be found in the office of the Japanese president and in the collection of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.

Among the most valued Wikkelsø’s designs sold at auctions, a bureau from the 1960s and a pair of chairs made of buffalo leather, sold by Bruun Rasmussen for DKK 54.000 (€ 7.250) in October 2010.
