14β Doll blue eyes blonde hair used condition
14x4β
Hi Sue,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This doll is not made of porcelain but rather what is called "composition," a hard papier-mache-like material that was a less expensive version to porcelain and could be easily molded and modeled.
Many (most) dolls are marked with the name of the maker on the back of their head/shoulders and the market typically values those dolls more than it does ones without a maker's name. I've valued your doll as an unattributed one but if there's a maker's name on this doll, please let me know and I'll update this appraisal.
Regrettably, the condition of this doll is quite poor, with damages to the face being particularly unfortunate. If this doll had been in all-original condition but without the damage to the face etc, it would be worth $50-75 but in its current condition, it's worth $20-30.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique composition and cloth body doll
unattributed maker, probably European, early 20th Century
With titian-colored hair, sleeping eyes, painted face, stuffed cloth torso. Presumably marked.
14 inches long
CONDITION: This doll is in fair to poor condition, with breaks to the face and discoloration/soiling to the face and arms.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$20-30*
