These dolls were given as gifts to my father 45-50 years ago when he was doing business with Japanese clients. There was a specific name for these dolls, but i can't remember what it was. There is a seal on the bottom of them, but it is in Japanese. They were quite expensive and prized at the time.
These were not pre-owned
Dear Paula,
I'm sorry for the delay. Had to do some additional research on this. Its a Geisha doll made in second half 20th century. So its not an antique but is a collectable. These dolls have usually Gofun heads. Gofun is a material made of grinded oystershell and glue. The base of the old heads was wood but later versions have also other base materials. Clothes are all had made. These doll's are popular and there are quite a lot around. Quality and the expression of the dolls you have is nice. I believe a fair price in auction will be around the estimate I gave you.
Dear Paula,
I will forward your request to the staff of Mearto. Hopefully They can guide you in selling.
Regards,
Simon Breider
Hi, Simon. It has been months since our original exchange. I ended up with so much on my plate at that time that i never followed up. But i never did get a response from Mearto. Can you instruct me further on who to contact at Mearto, or how to contact someone there who can help me to get the guidance you mentioned in your last message to me? Thank you so much, Simon, I so appreciate your help with this.
Sincerely, Paula Friedland
thank you SO much for the estimate, and the additional info! very helpful. Would you know anything about how to get the heads re-attached?
Also, i've never gone to an auction with anything, so i don't have the faintest idea of how i would start that process. Any guidance from you would be SO appreciated. Thank you!!! ~Paula
