1853 British light dual Calvary Sabre, has the fancy style hilt not the solid style and it's intact no cracks, stamped 7 with a crown on one side of the blade, other side has a stamp also but hard to make out, round style handle, it's all forged steal, aswell as forged welds, haven't been touched meaning original aging is still intact, no cracks dings or dents, other then little rusty on the blade,
All I know is it's a 1853 British light dual Calvary Sabre all original, everything is still intact, I had it handed to me from a friend, don't plan on getting rid of it just want to have it appraised, I know these styles are rare to come by as they changed the hilt cause the always cracked on impact, the handles were changed cause the sword would always twist in their hand cause rounded style handle, and I know my style is rare to come by to cause most hilts are destroyed from war!!
Dear Chris,
Thank you for your help and patience. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a British M. 1853 light dual cavalry sword. It comes with the scabbard and the blade is stamped with the crowned 7 which names the cavalry unit.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in bad condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 50 to 100 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
It's stamped a B on one side and a 7 with a Crown above it, those are the only stamps which are shown in the pictures, I was told the 7 means government inspection stamp but not sure what the B stands for not the crown!!!
