Thought to be original colt .44 peacemaker from the 1870s. Serial number 44691. has correct patent stampings, serial number stampings, and .44 CF on left hand side of the frame above the trigger guard. No idea on the history, was inherited from my great grandfather.
Owned by my great grandfather, an avid firearms collector. Was lost in storage when he passed in 2004, and recovered about 3 years ago. Was told he owned it since the 1960s-1970s. No history known beyond that
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry, and I apologize for the delay. This is an early production original Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army made in 1878. It has a rarer long-barrel configuration. The original finish of the metal is almost completely worn off, but the steel has a stable patina. The frame originally would have been color-case hardened, the barrel would have been blued, and the small parts were flame-blued. The wooden grips have some significant wear, and are chipped around the base. This is a very special gun, and of great historical value! Given the condition of this piece, and completed auctions of similar items, a fair market estimation is 2,800-3,000. Please reach out with any questions.
