Hello Kim,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, style and the serial number, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Made Prestigious Steinway & Sons Grand Piano. The piece dates back to the year 1877 acoording to it's serial number and the design also confirms this date. Sitka Spruce was used on the sound board while the exterior of the piece was made of French rose wood. The piece is an antique and a very valuable piece for collectors and Steinway fans. Model C. This model was first produced in 1871. The piano features a sectional case with a square rear corner in the tail of the cabinet. The cabinet features Rococo style carved details and a double linear molding around the bottom of the case. The legs are carved cabriole legs with scroll feet and hidden casters. The music desk is of filigree style. The Monitor was the first Steinway grand with a 20-note bass section, a full cupola cast iron plate, and a continuous soundboard bridge. The piece appears to be in good condition without problems.
