This was my grandmothers, grandmothers whom grew up in Germany … that’s all I know is it was hanging in her grandmothers house. I have had art specialist in my area look at it. All they can say is it’s def 18 th century, looks half oil painting half print. But they said in the old days they used charcoal to clean paintings which looks like happened here
With frame 15x17.
Dear Keri Reinert,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work appears to be a hand-embellished print on canvas. It depicts a young boy holding a platter and raising a glass. The work is unsigned, and the artist remains unknown. A reverse image search did not grant any further information. According to the customer, the work has been inherited through German family members. Another professional opinion dates this work to the 18th century. It is difficult to assess the age of this work from photographs and without seeing the back of the canvas. The composition is a Continental School style. From the images, it appears to be in poor condition. There are significant abrasions throughout and staining, and discoloration to the surface. It measures 15 x 17 inches.
Without an artistic attribution, the Fair Market Value of this work is estimated based on sales trends of works in similar style, age, and condition. Looking at these sales trends, most continental school works of young boys sell around $100. The work's medium as hand-embellished print further devalues this piece. For these reasons, we estimate the FMV of this between $0 and $200.
Thank you again for your submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
