Description

19.65 carats Brazilian natural emerald. Certified. Highly included. Cabochon cut. Dimensions 19.91 x 14.73 x 11.21 mm. I'm a private collector and have managed to buy the stone rough and have sent it to be cut by some of the best cutters in Brazil. You have asked for pictures but I think that a video is even better to analyze the stone, please contact me back in case you want it.

What does this mean?

A Large Green Beryl Specimen, Brazil
the native-cut cabochon stone exhibiting bands of pale green colour and heavily included, stated to weigh 19.65 cts, measuring 19.91 x 14.73 x 11.21 mm.

Accompanied by a Brazilian Gem Certificate dated February 28 2022 stating:-
Natural Emerald. Clarity: Highly included.

The stone is too pale to be described as the gem variety of "emerald" so the correct gemmological description is green beryl

Sorry but your statement that it's a green beryl is wrong and in case I show the stone to one thousand gemologists all of them will say that it's an emerald, since there is no open debate/interpretation about this issue. The stone has a very rich green color and you haven't paid attention to the pictures and should have asked for a video or more pictures instead of making a wrong statement. You also ignored the technical information of the certificate that I've provided, which states that it's an emerald. The reason why I'm asking for your appraisal is to get informed about the price in international markets, my certificate indicates the price in Brazil (and it's a low price even for Brazil, the gemologist was too "sober"). It is expected for this stone to be worth in international markets many times higher than in Brazil. Of course I can't force Mearto to determine a higher value for the item, but YES I can demand that you remove the statement that it's a green beryl, because it's not, your statement is technically wrong according to the science of Gemology.

Also, that's a very rare stone with nice weight, color and cut. The only aspects that may affect the price is that is clarity is not high quality, but it has some, it's also highly included, but in general is a gorgeous stone and very valuable. It's very rare to find an emerald of this size/weight with this level of quality, even though it's not a high quality emerald.

Keep in mind that this is the best stone of many and your appraisal doesn't even cover the costs to produce it, since tons of material must be processed to find a stone like this one. It's a very rare emerald and you should know it.

So I would like to ask you to remake the appraisal taking in consideration that it's an emerald. I can provide more pictures and a video in case you want more information.

Regards,

Pedro

Thanks Pedro. No I am pleased to confirm that MEARTO is not an AI valuing system.

With the greatest of respect I regret that I cannot change the description from Green Beryl to Emerald as the colour is not rich enough in colour to be described as "emerald" which is the precious variety of "green beryl".

I am sorry if you have paid a lot for your certificate or the gemstone in Brazil but I am a qualified gemmologist who has been valuing emeralds for over 40 years and I assure you I know the difference. I do accept that Itabira/Nova Era belt in Minas Gerais are known for their fine color and transparency precious emeralds, but sadly your stone is simply not in this category.

Of course you are welcome to obtain a 2nd opinion at the GIA or AGL laboratories in New York which will prove that I am correct.

So sorry that my expert opinion has been disappointing on this occasion.

I've just taken now 2 pictures at daylight and attached to the appraisal request. Please check it. I have no doubt that this is an emerald, Brazilian gemologist André Leite who certified the emerald is, together with his father Walter Leite, the best gemologist in Brazil. Many of the best stones found in Brazil are analysed by him and he is experieced in certifying extremly valuable gemstones. The origin of the emerald is the mine of Carnaíba, State of Bahia (Brazil), which is the biggest emerald mine in Brazil.
