Hi Marcie,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
SewMagic was originally a toy sewing system aimed at kids: a kind of sewing machine that didn’t use a real needle and thread, but instead used a safe, nontoxic glue (or similar bonding system) to assemble fabrics into clothes. The “add-ons” for SewMagic — like this set — were patterns or kits designed to let you make outfits for Barbie and Ken dolls. The add-on pack typically included patterns (though fabrics might not always be included). In the vintage set above, it’s described as “patterns … to make Barbie and Ken fashions using the Barbie Sew Magic machine.”
These kits were part of a push (in the 1970s) to get kids interested in “home sewing” and creative crafting — letting them design and “make” doll clothes from scratch.
Kits like this that are on the market and which have been opened usually sell at auction for less than $50, typically in the $20-40 range; note that this is a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
