1977 shafer rocking chair, gold decoration some of it worn off but otherwise nearly perfect condition.
Hi Trish,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Shafer Commercial Seating Inc. manufactured furniture for the hospitality / contract-furniture market: chairs, barstools, booths/banquettes, tabletops and bases. The company profile notes they serve markets such as hotels, restaurants, country clubs, stadiums/arenas, senior-living. One directory entry shows the company was established in 1936 and incorporated in Colorado; the company went out of business in the mid/late 2010s.
Such pieces of Colonial Revival furniture, while sturdy and entirely serviceable, are a bit out of fashion these days, when collectors still prefer to furniture on a more "modern" aesthetic. Most that come to auction these days sell for less than $100.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Colonial Revival style parcel gilt walnut (stained) rocking armchair
made by the Shafer Commercial Seating Co, circa 1977
The shaped rounded crest over four knife-blade splits between turned siles, shaped arms over turned art supports, shaped saddle seat, the turned legs joined by a turned box stretcher, on rockers. Dated label underneath.
