I have a pair of these, but I am getting one appraised; I didn't know what your policy was on pairs of items. It measures approximately 44" tall, 12-3/8" wide and 1" thick. I wonder if the appraiser could translate the writing. I don't know woods very well, I wonder if the appraiser could tell me what kind of wood these are typically constructed of. I added a couple of images of the dovetailing.
No provenance that I am aware of.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a republic period early 20th century pair of either watercolours on paper or paintings on porcelain plaques. The rosewood frames are decorated with a "Luck" chinese character on each painting. My attempt to translate the 對聯 dui lian poem above the paintings failed. Only parts on this variation of seal script is legible. The estimate is based on similar items sold or offered at auction.
Klaus - I did not realize these were tiles! Each measure approximately 23" tall and 9" wide. Look forward to seeing the appraisal.
Klaus - May I have a status on this appraisal? Thanks, Sandra
