$300-500 is more in line for what unattributed marine pictures of this size and age are bringing at auction. But if you can get $500 you'll have done well!
I would catalog it as follows:
European School, 19th Century
Painting of ships at sea
oil on canvas
signed indistinctly lower right
12 inches high by 17 1/2 inches wide
CONDITION: a few small areas of paint loss, primarily in the lower left and center right.
PROVENANCE: acquired at an estate sale
