Dear Betty,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be two wooden carved and painted egg with measurements of 25 cm height and 12,25 cm diameter. This egg was carved from softwood like linden wood or birch wood. Such elaborated and decorated eggs are a traditional present for the Easter holiday in Russian orthodox countries and one of the most famous examples for this tradition is the Faberge eggs. This egg is carved and painted with oil paint with scenes from the Russian countryside and an inscription with pencil indicates and dating around 1903 and localization to St. Petersburg. the second inscription says "Fait a la main par less Artisano Tusses" which means translated from the French language "Handmade by Artisano Tusses". Sadly no further information regarding the biography of this artist is mentioned in reference books or similar databases.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 400 USD each.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
