1) Man in traditional costume - measures approx 22cm high when he is removed from the box he stands 15.5cm high & 9.5cm diam at his waist & his box is 6cm high x 11cm diam at the base - he is in great condition, perhaps a little fading 2) Woman has a little crown on her head and is in evening dress - she measures approx 18.5cm high and when removed from her box she is 13.5cm high x 8cm and box is 5cm high x 9.5cm diam at base. Looking under a magnifying glass I think she has had restoration work on the neck and I think that she may have had a necklace which now cannot be seen. She also has a dark brown mark on inside of the lid, like a big thick tick & there is a very faded impressed mark on her base.
No idea, it was one of items sold from an Estate sale - I think from the costumes they may be Russian
Dear Judith,
Thank you for your request. The presented objects are two porcelain or ceramic figurines. One depicts a man with a traditional costume has the measurements of 22 cm and the second depicts a woman in a ball dress has the height of 18,5 cm. There are no hallmarks of similar producer marks visible. The costume of the men is not clearly locatable. he wears a so-called Phrygian cap which was in use in different European countries from Sweden to Italy. The jacket with its locking bolts reminds of Eastern Europe costumes but is also a part of the hussar military dresses and also spread around Europe. Figurines like this are made in Bohemia or Italy in the early 20th century.
An estimation would be between 60 to 120 AUD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
Dear Judith,
you are very welcome. This estimation is for both statues.
With kind regards,
Georg
Thank you Georg, I note your estimated value is $60-$120 is that for each statue or for both?
