Hello Jay,
Happy New Year. Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. I apologize for the delay in your appraisal and thank you for your patience.
The item presented appears to be a Japanese style four-panel folding screen dating to the early 20th century. Unfortunately, we are unable to translate the inscription seen on the work. However, these inscriptions typically relate to the scene depicted or a poem. The scene appears to depict a narrative landscape in the style of Yamato-e (大和絵), often found on folding screens (byōbu).
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of other comparable Japanese style byōbu, dating to the early 20th century, depicting a similar scene, and similar size. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
