Hi! I bought these at an estate sale and am wondering if they are worth anything? They are a set of 6. With Greek like design around the edge of the cup and saucer plate. I’m unsure if it’s real sterling silver because I see no markings on the bottoms or anywhere of the cup or plate. A cleaned them up but still a fair bit of tarnishing on them. Very ornate!
Set of 6. Saucer plate is about 4 inches wide. Cup is almost 1 1/2 inches tall by about 2 1/2 wide.
Hi Cassie,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
These are coffee or demitasse cup holders and would have been fitted with porcelain or glass liners this is part of a dessert service that might also have had a larger cake plate of similar design.
I've never seen these in sterling, only silver plate and it's likely that this is plate rather than sterling. Sterling must be stamped STERLING or "925" if it's by an American maker (English or European makers used smaller more discrete marks).
Lacking the liners, this set is worth only a nominal amount, just between $75-125.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Classical revival style silver plate dessert service for six
unattributed maker, early-mid 20th Century
With pierced Greek Key decorative banding to both cup and saucer. Presumably unmarked.
Saucer: 4 inches diameter.
Cups: 1-1/2 inches tall, 2-1/2 inches diameter
CONDITION: Tarnished and lacking liners
PROVENANCE: Acquired at a garage or yard sale
$ 75-125*
