Abbott and Costello "NO INDIANS, PLEASE" by Castle Films (div. of United World Films Inc.) No. 808
4 1/2" diameter reel
Hi Larry,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
"No Indians, Please" wasn’t a full feature film but a short comedy reel starring Abbott and Costello that was sold for home movie projectors in the late 1940s and early 1950s by Castle Films. It runs about 8–10 minutes and was compiled from selected scenes of the 1942 Universal Pictures feature Ride ’Em Cowboy, repackaged for the home market.
In the short, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello find themselves in the “West” where Costello’s antics — including shooting an arrow through a tent and offending a Native American tribe — launch a comic chase as they try to escape pursuing riders.
The title No Indians, Please reflects both the edited focus on frontier sequences and the period’s casual use of stereotypes common in mid‑20th‑century comedy. As a collectible film reel today, it’s notable for its representation of early home entertainment formats and the popularity of Abbott and Costello’s routines outside traditional theatrical releases.
While I haven't found any other copies of "No Indians Please" to have come up for auction recently, other the prices realized for other Abbott & Costello short films suggest this would likely sell at auction for between $40 to $60, given the worn condition of the box.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
