What does this mean?

Dear Mark,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload a few better images of the silver marks. If you cannot photograph them could you please describe them for me?

Thanks

They are really small marks, that do not come out with the camera in my phone. They are a small round mark and a smaller square mark.

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

It is a beautiful silver set. Such vintage flatware sets are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
It is very hard to tell from your description of the marks if it is silver or silverplated. However I will give an estimate assuming it is silver as I find no signs of the silver having been worn off on the pictures you have sent. I do not recognise the silvermarks from your description, but it is quite possible that they are portuguese silvermarks from the beginning of the 1900s.
All in all I presume there are 12 dinner forks, 12 dinner knives, 12 dinner spoons and 14 serving pieces = a total of 50 pieces.
The pattern is typical of the early 1900s and was made for many decades by several silversmiths all over Europe in various variations. It is decorative and elegant. Fortunately the flatware does not appear to have any engravings or initials engraved which is a good thing pricewise. New buyers rarely have initials matching the old owners.
It is a nice set with partly gilted items however flatware is not all that popular at the moment which is reflected in the price.

The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online silver auction, where I believe the flatware has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the flatware set.. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you

I am so sorry I just saw now that there are 98 pieces - the estimate is revised accordingly.
Thank you
