This was located on a dig in (as I recall) Guatemala by an amateur archeologist friend back in the mid to late eighties and given to me whilst I was visiting him in Costa Rica. At the time he told me it was pure gold and described as above. It appears to have attachment points for a chain as can be seen and intended as a pendant.
