It is a view of Duntuilm Castle in the Isle of Skie. On the back is a label from the Clason Clark Gallery in Edinburgh. It has A Hogg on the label with the words Copper Engraving c1780 underneath his name. It looks like a very old painting. It also says it is one in a series of views and buildings in Scotland published by Hogg c1780.
Not sure. I found it when tidying, so it was probably given to me by my mother years ago. she is now deceased.
Good afternoon, Morag,
Thank you for submitting photographs to Mearto for appraisal.
This is a copper-engraved and handcolored print of Duntulm (misspelled in the print!) Castle in the Isle of Skye (also misspelled!). The print was engraved by Eastgate and published by Alexander Hogg circa 1770-1790. There is little demand for them on the market these days but this appears to be in good condition.
I hope this information is useful to you. Please let us know if you have additional items to be appraised, and thank you for using Mearto.
