I collected this several years ago, at a Habitat for Humanity sale. I could not identify the style or the subject of the painting. It was originally framed with a glass cover. There is something that looks like a signature obscured by part of the art, and it is pictured. The gentleman pictured with an instrument looks like someone who could be known, but so far, no. The style of painting looks original, not like a print. I thought I should investigate with your help. Sometimes, I get it wrong.
The piece measures 41 inches tall and 30 inches wide.
Dear Rhonda Guess,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work appears to be an ink and watercolor painting on paper. The painting is a caricaturist style composition of a figure in three-quarter profile holding a flute. It measures 41 x 30 inches and is in Fair condition with toning to the sheet, visible mat burn, and uneven toning to the edges. Based on the condition and style the work is likely of the mid-late 20th century. The artist of this work is unknown. It is possibly signed to the center of the lower margin. Research of the identity of this figure did not lead to any positive identifications.
Without an artistic attribution, the value of this work is estimated based on works of similar style and condition. Caricature style works appear frequently on the market. The Fair condition of this work will decrease value in relation to its comparables. Based on market trends, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $0 and $200.
Thank you again for your submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
