Dear Karine
I am still awaiting the appraisal for this painting. Could you kindly get back to me?
Dear Renata,
Sorry about the delay and just saw your message. I will get back to you before Monday.
My apologies once again.
Karine
Dear Renata,
Sorry again for having taken so long to reply to your last message.
This small undated oil painting appears to be by the German artist Adolf Heinrich Lier (1826-1822). This is a Landscape at dusk. It measures 15 cm (H) x 30 cm (W). It is housed in a gilt frame and appears to be in good condition overall. An auction house stencil can be seen on the reverse.
Adolf Heinrich Lier studied in Dresden and Basel and pursued his career in Paris and Barbizon in particular, where he met up with Daubigny, Corot, Dupré and Rousseau. Back in Germany, he mainly focused on landscape painting.
The estimation highlighted in red above is based on comparables offered and sold at auction in the last five years. The subject work’s size, composition, condition (based on photographs and comments provided), as well as the artists’ current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Best regards,
Karine
Dear Karine
The painting is approximately 30x15cm and I cannot see a signature on the photos. The painting is in Germany., so can't check. I know from a letter to my late father that the painting is by Adolf Lier.
My father was an art historian, so I believe that this information should be quite reliable.
Kind regards
Renata
