African / Asian Ivory Sculpture
This piece was given to me by my late grandfather who was a diamond cutter and polisher, he used to work in belgium, africa , asia and etc'... it seems as if this item was acquired in some auction here in Israel (as it has a lot number on the bottom), many years back. It seems to be an ivory sculpture carving - extremely detailed, in the photos you will see a ruler too for scale, it seems to be: 44cm length, 20cm height.

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a chinese ivory carving depicting a chinese landscape with a pagoda, buildings and various scenes of scholars in conversation, mounted on a mahogany stained wooden base, most likely made circa 1970. The current market situation for ivory carvings is dominated by restrictions and trade bans. To sell it you would need a certificate of the type of ivory ( asian, african, indian or maritime) and proof that you purchased it before 1970. Than you can try to get at CITES. To export it you will need more documents etc. All these documents and certificates will most likely exceed the estimate. So basically there is no market value to modern ivory carvings at the moment.
