This appears to be an etching by Al HIRSCHFELD (1903-2003) depicting the actor and comedian W.C.Fields in his iconic stage persona as a hard drinking gruntling old man. There is quite a difference in the prices paid in the early 2000s and the auction result of last year. Most likely the actor´s fame has lost it´s effect on the art market or the major W.C.Fields collector died. The estimate is based on the most recent result for an identical print offered in a well advertised auction.
