Dear Elizabeth Eoff,
Thank you for this additional appraisal submission. The work appears to be an acrylic painting on canvas by Alan Weinstein (Canadian, born 1939). It depicts a nearly abstracted figure in a sparse, interior setting. The work measures 29.5 x 23.75 inches in frame and 24 x 18 inches unframed. The painting is signed and dated to 1991 on the verso. Based on the photographs provided, the work appears to be in good condition with minor accretions to the surface. The frame features discoloration, wear, and loss throughout.
In the early 1990s, Weinstein focused his work on interior scenes of women and children with chairs in a simplistic, near-abstraction style. This specific work, as confirmed by the date on the verso, fits into this era of the artist's oeuvre.
Weinstein has a significant exhibition record, but his auction record is sparse.
There are just a few works currently on sale at a gallery, and therefore do not reflect auction success or buyer demand. It is likely that these gallery prices are higher than the market estimates. A more extensive auction record of Weinstein's paintings from the early 1990s and similar size would be preferred. With this in mind, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $2,000 and $5,000.
Thank you for your appraisal submission. If you have any questions about this report, please leave a comment in the comment box below.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
