Hi Eric,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
All things connected with Alex Ovechkin are super hot now when, on April 6, 2025, he surpassed Wayne Gretzky's long-standing record by scoring his 895th career goal, becoming the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer.
Born on September 17, 1985, in Moscow, he has been the face of the Washington Capitals since being selected first overall in the 2004 NHL Draft. Nicknamed "The Great 8," Ovechkin has spent his entire NHL career with the Capitals, serving as their captain and leading them to numerous successes, including their first Stanley Cup championship in 2018.
It's a little early to have the full picture of how much Ovechkin collectibles will appreciate but I can say that prior to setting the new record, this would have had a value of less than $1,000. An uncertified game-worn hockey stick from Ovechkin's rookie year is currently for sale at Heritage Auctions, with an estimate of $4,000-6,000.
Because this was not used in a game, it doesn't carry the same panache but is still worth $2,000-3,000.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

Hello Delia,
In response to your questions, I received the hockey stick as a prize at a church Men's Retreat approximately 10 years ago. We had someone at our church who worked as a Membership Services Manager for the Washington Capitals who provided some signed memorabilia as prizes for the retreat. So I'm sure that the signature is authentic but it is not certified, which I know is a big deal with these things. It has been in my possession ever since in a box to keep it protected. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you,
Erik
