Framed original drawings by artist Alexander Canedo. 13.5” wide by 20” long.
Originally owned by an art collection today living in San Diego. He was a second cousin. We inherited these in 1985 upon his passing.
The appraised work is a pencil drawing on paper executed by Mexican-American artist Alexander Cañedo (1902-1978). The drawing depicts an idealized nude female figure lying on her back in a foreshortened pose, with her head in the foreground and her body receding into space. Cañedo was born in Mexico City and went to Paris at the age of 15 to study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts before going to Rome to further his studies. By 1928, he was exhibiting his work in the United States. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, condition (based on photographs provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
