I was told by my adoptive archaeologist grandfather that this piece is from the Yucatán. It is in great condition. The only flaw it has is a small amount of damage to one of the lizards faces that adorn each side of the vessel. It is made of clay.
. It measures approximately 8 inches in height and 5 inches in width.
Dear Kim,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a Yucatan pottery vessel with a lizard face design.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in medium condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 100 to 200 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Gregory
Dear Kim,
Thank you for your message. Clay comes always from layers in river beds or old river beds. In this case, it has an iron ingredient that colors it red. It was made in a Mayan style and was made for a liquid drink or food.
I hope this answers your questions.
With kind regards,
Gregory
This is very little info about this item. What clay is it made from? What was it used for? What part of the Yucatán is it from?
