I inherited this angel figurine. It looks sort of like a Hummel, but there is no mark on it. The bottom has a felt covering on it. It weighs 7 ounces. It stands 7 inches tall and has a base diameter of 3 inches, with a wing span of in4 inches.
This belolnged to my great aunt. She lived from 1908 to 1979.
Dear Catherine,
Greetings and thank you for reaching out to Mearto to evaluate your ceramic Angel figurine in the style of a Hummel figurine. As you likely already know, the drawings of Franciscan nun Berta Hummel caught the eye of Franz Goebel, the head of the W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik company, he translated them into hand-painted ceramic figurines. Hummel was already a published artist by the time she connected with Goebel and their partnership made her designs globally popular and copied by many companies.
This is the story with your charming angel figurine who was likely made in Japan in the 1940s. I assume it does not bear a maker's mark because it is also unlicensed through Goebel.
You piece may have originally been one of a set of an angel symphony. She has been airbrushed with traces of hand painting.
In this case, the sentimental value may be greater than the monetary value at auction she would sell for less than $10USD. If you have any follow-up questions, please let me know and thank you for your submission.
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
