Angel Luque lived in Caracas, Venezuela from 1955-1967. Throughout this period he worked on large, significant engravings, which were based on free-form geometric structures. “Yellow” is one of his pieces that was on display during this time at the Caracas Museum of Fine Arts (Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas). “Yellow” communicates Luque's trend to try and interpret geometric design.

Dear Catalina Brown,
Thank you for your submission, and for the additional photos. The submitted work is a mixed media painting on masonite measuring 121 x 164 cm. Attributed to Angel Luque (Spanish, 1927-2014), the work is abstract in a neutral tone with dynamic, freeform brush work towards the center. Based on the images the work appears to be in good condition with wear and slight loss to the edges. The masonite board is lifting slightly from the supporting frame on the verso. It is unsigned. The work includes a scan of an exhibition label from the Museo de Bellas Artes Caracas and reads the following attributions: Luque, Angel/ "Yellow"/ mixed media on masonite/ 121 x 164 cm/ Collection Angel Luque, Caracas/ Exhibition in New York, Paris, Haifa.
Luque lived and worked in Venezuela between the 1950s and 1960s. He worked in various mediums including painting, prints, and illustrations. There are few works by Luque on the market, predominantly those of geometric abstraction. Due to the discrepancy in style and the lack of a signature, this appraisal is conditional based on the inclusion of the exhibition label.
In this case, as much of the listed works by Luque differ in medium and style, the Fair Market Value is an estimation strongly considering these differences and their effect on buyer interest. In comparison to the auction records of Luque's sculptures, engravings, and paintings of geometric abstraction, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work to be from $1,000 to $2,000.

Will do! It is really hard to take off the wall. I'll have to do that to see if the paperwork is still attached. It may take a minute.
