This is an antique, late 19th century cast iron foot pedal driven binder equipment by Frederick Peter Rosback. Rosback, born in 1846, grew up in Springfield. Illinois and as an aside, was neighbors with none other than Abraham Lincoln. After the Civil War Rosback started in the machinist trade, first with the Northwestern Railroad and then inventing for McCormick Harvester Company. He established his own company in 1881. This machine was patented in 1888 and it is a perforator for binding books that also needed perforated paper such as checks, stamps and stock certificates.
