Looks like it is oil on canvas, framed. Dimensions of the painting are 25 in x 30 in.
I believe it was originally purchased by my grandparents, was inherited by my parents and now belongs to me.
Dear Sam,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This beautiful undated oil painting appears to be by the American artist called Anthony Thieme (1888-1954). This is a view of Rockford Waterfront, and it is signed “A. Thieme” on the lower left edge. Size 25" x 30" . It is housed in a carved gilt frame and appears to be in good condition overall.
Anthony Thieme was a landscape and marine painter and a major figure of the Rockport (MA) School of American regional art. Today, his work is held in high regard by collectors and museums alike, and he is represented in many major collections such as the Boston Museum of Fine Art, Pittsfield Museum of Art (Massachusetts), and Los Angeles Museum of History, Science & Art. In 1999, the Rockport Art Association held a retrospective exhibition dedicated to this artist.
His work is regularly sold at auction and mainly in America. The estimation highlighted in red above is based on comparables offered and sold at auction in the last five years. The subject work’s size, the composition, condition (based on photographs and comments provided), as well as the artists’ current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Please note that this valuation has been provided on the condition of authenticity, which may need to be confirmed with additional research. For more information, please visit www.mearto.com/authenticate.
