An antique George III style Chinoiserie black and scarlet gilt japanned secretary bookcase
20th Century
In two sections. The broken domed cornice centering a gilt finial and flanked by gilt finials, over tombstone-profile cabinet doors opening to a divided interior with short drawers and pigeon holes; the lower case with slant lid opening to an amphitheater interior with pigeon holes and short drawers, over a case fitted with two stacks of short drawers over two long drawers, all on a box base. The exterior with black and gilt japanning, the interior with scarlet and gilt japanning.
81 inches tall, 40-1/2 inches wide, 20 inches deep
CONDITION: This desk-and-bookcase appears to be in very good condition.
