Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I've done a pretty comprehensive check of different variations of this maker's name (Doris/Dolores/Doloris Clemson/Clemsen/Clemens) and haven't found a listed late 20th Century maker of dolls to hang an attribution on.
That said, late 20th Century-made dolls by the significant majority of makers have a low resale market at auction. In other words, while this doll might have cost a few to several hundred dollars in 1972, if this were to come to auction today, it would almost certainly bring less than $300 (if you were selling it, I would suggest asking $500 so as not to undersell it).
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage bisque porcelain clown doll
probably American, signed and dated indistinctly on its backside "D---C---/5-17-72"
With blond hair and painted features, wearing an ABC-print cap and suit with synthetic lace trim, Mary Jane shoes. The body is represented to be ball-jointed.
35 inches long
CONDITION: This doll appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Inherited
