Antique brass statue of Hindu god, Vishnu
This is an antique statue of the Hindu god, Vishnu. I have had it for over 20 years. It was purchased in Boston at a small shop specializing in Indian (especially from the Rajasthan area) and Nepalese art and antiques. It is made of brass. I recollect it was at least 100 years old at the time of purchase. I no longer have the sales receipt or any written information about its age or place of origin. Vishnu appears to be standing in a doorway with an embellished frame arching over him- a small bird is depicted on each side of the frame. At the top of the arch appears to be the face of a lion or some other cat(?) The carvings of Vishnu's facial features are very detailed, as are those of his clothing, and the scepters being held in three of his four hands. Given its age, it appears to be in good condition. I did not provide any specific care. A dark patina covers the statue.
