A 10kt Gold & White Porcelain Cameo Brooch/Pendant, circa 1890
the circular cameo depicting a lady in profile, her hair adorned with an hair ornament, within a surround of half pearls, with pendant fitting, gross weight 8.30 grams.
Hi Dana,
Honestly I don't think in all fairness I cannot attribute the depiction to any classical figure as strictly speaking the hair style is contemporary ie late Victorian as is the floral wreath edging at the top of her dress.
Many thanks
Ok thanks for your time. I just haven’t seen many other cameo’s with the crown like points radiating from the crown of the head.
What are the points coming from her head?
Hi once again!
I’m not concerned if the value is any different from what is currently appraised, but I added another pictures with different lighting angles. A couple days after I gave this a rest, I saw a lady liberty coin and I knew that’s what I thought this was. I think that’s it what I find so familiar about the cameo subject rather than it being “random.”
Please take a look at this image and let me know your thoughts.
I appreciate your time to satisfy my curiosity!
Personally looking at your new attached image, sadly I don't think reasonably we can attribute a connection to the Lady Liberty Coin.
I was happy to take a 2nd look
Thanks!!
Hi!
Thank you for your appraisal.
I wanted to know your thoughts on the lady in the profile.
If you look closely, the hair is rather short and there are spikes protruding from the crown of the head.
Do you think this could be a depiction of Sol Invictus, as these themes were common during the period which this appears to be from? Rather than a "lady," this is a man with some type of crown or spikes radiating from him with a wreath of honor?
I am interested in your thoughts, I would believe this subject would be slightly more valuable than an unknown woman?
Thanks for you time,
Dana
