a lady with naked to the waist standing straight with her arms flung back, she has wings and has her right leg slightly bent. The statue stands about 20cm. It is also signed at the bottom: ELEJEUN and also REG EDDES
I've had it for about 50 years and got it off an old guy who has passed away quite a few years ago
Dear Barry,
Thank you for your request. The presented object is a car mascot made by the British company Lejeune. Lejeune was founded in 1910 and focused on small bronzes, decorative architectural fittings, and car mascots. This car mascot is orientated to the mythological figurine of Psyche, a woman with wings of a butterfly. This design is quite similar to the most famous car mascot by Lejeune the "Speed Nymph". This figurine was probably made in the 1920s or early 1930s. This figurine is also stamped ED DBS which is the artist's or designer's reference.
An estimation would be between 220 to 440 AUD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
Dear Barry,
You are very welcome. Some of the figurines were made exclusive for just one car brand others were made for the individual decoration of the car. This piece was highly probably made for individual decoration.
With kind regards,
Georg
Thankyou Georg. The information was really helpful. I was also wondering if this figurine was made for a certain make of car or just a general mascot for any car.
King Regards,
Barry
