The design of the ring is classic and elegant. This type of diamond ring never goes out of fashion. It is hard to tell the quality, size, colour and clarity of the stones. But they appear to be old-cut diamonds meaning that the ring is probably from the first part of the 1900s.
My guess is that the the total carat of the ring is just around 1 ct and this is what the appraisal is based on.

The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online jewellery auction, where I believe the ring has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the diamond and gold ring. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
