antique dolls house with furniture inside
02 September 2025
Description

This was a dolls house left to me/my family by my great aunt Rosmarijn van der does de willebois (1927) that she played with when she was a kid. She also lived in the Netherlands when it was occupied during the Second World War, so there's a bit of history to the doll's house. It has electrical wiring to each room, and multiple sockets in some rooms. These also have corresponding lampshades and lights to plug into the sockets. 8 working lamps, 3 broken ones, and 3 fireplaces. The bathroom has a single lightbulb installed; I'm not sure if there was a lamp there before, but there is a socket on the wall. (side note: if you know any websites where I can buy an adapter for this doll's house, that would be great, it looks similar to a European type C outlet, but it's much smaller, maybe 2 cm in diameter). It has multiple furniture sets, some of which could have been bought in the 70s for her nieces and nephews, but others that look quite old, including chairs with nailed-in fabric/leather, and bobbins and canes made from bone (potentially ivory). Very much in need of some love, but the structure is sound; some curtains have fallen down in the doll's house itself, and the roof is a bit raised in one area, and the carpet in another. As for markings, not many, some furniture says my roma or maybe home? on it. the house itself says "de beeren clauwe". If you'd like close ups of certain things let me know.

Dimensions

The height up to the roof of the doll's house is 53", from the base to the ceiling of the last floor 38 ", and the width is 50 "

What does this mean?

Hi Eleanor,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The market for dollhouses widely varies, with collectors being willing to pay more money for those with either noteworthy provenance (once owned by a person of historical significance, or from a museum) or ones made by premier dollhouse makers, such as Christian Hacker (Germany, 19th Century), Moritz Gottschalk (Germany, late 19th – early 20th Century), Ernst Plank (Germany, 19th Century); Silber & Fleming (UK, late 19th Century) or Lines Bros / Tri-ang (UK, early to mid-20th Century). Also collectible are dollhouse replicas of famous houses (Buckingham Palace, the White House, etc).

The significant value of this dollhouse lies in its extensive collection of furnishings. Dollhouses of this size without furnishings usually sell for less than $150 but ones that retain furnishings as extensive as these but which do not meet any of the criteria as I've outlined them above usually sell for between $400 and $600 when offered at recent auction. I realize that given the long history of this dollhouse in your family that it might be worth "sentimentally" more but I thought it was appropriate to be realistic with you in terms of expectations if you want to sell it.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
