Hi Matthew,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a handsome Louis XV style chest of drawers - "bureau" being the correct French term. While this might once have brought five figure prices at auction, the market is such that most of these that are offered rarely sell above $5,000, with most bringing in the $1,000-3,000 range when sold at auction.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Louis XV style marble top ormolu mounted and marquetry inlaid mahogany bureau
French, late 19th Century
With shaped Brignoles marble top with molded edge and outset corners and front center over a corresponding case with ormolu (cast bronze) mounts fitted with three short drawers over a long drawer, with marquetry inlaid fronts, over a shaped drop, raised on short cabriole legs terminating in paw feet. Presumed to be unmarked.
36-1/2 inches high, 65 inches long/wide, 24-1/4 inches deep
CONDITION: This bureau appears to be in generally good condition with minor splitting and losses to veneers, scuffing and scratches commensurate to normal wear from use
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$1,500-2,500*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
