I was told it's been passed through every generation of my family....was told it says congratulations in hebrew on the left and is dated 5371...current year is 5776 which would put it at 1611ad. If correct
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a betrothal or wedding ring used during a jewish wedding. Such rings were very popular among collectors during the late 19th century, commonly thought to come from either Germany or Italy, thought to date from the 17th century or earlier. Similar rings can be found in museum collections, but so far research could not determin the precise origin nor determin whether they are actually that old. The ring in your possession is made of high grade possibly 22 karat gold, hollow inside and slightly dented. The date is very unusual and a bit too good to be true. An XRF analysis might determin the origin of the gold. It would be great if you could show it to a museum for testing. The estimate is based on very few results for similar sold at auction in recent years. The highest price for a very find gold wedding ring with twisted and braided border was paid twenty years ago, approx. 60 000, with a pre-estimate of 1000-1500.
