Settee with carved grapes and leaves. 68"x38"x28" I think the wood is walnut. It was re-upholstered around 1970 with gold velour style fabric.
I received it from my parents, who got it from an aunt when she was in her 90's. The aunt used to collect antiques.
Dear Suzanne,
Greetings and thank you for calling upon the experts at Mearto. You have a lovely Victorian, settee. You mentioned walnut, but some of the grain looks like rosewood, woods are difficult to decipher in images but I thought it bears mentioning.
I love these settees, the lines are so classic and the grape cluster carving on yours is just lovely. However, at auction, in this condition, they struggle to sell for over $100USD. If you had it re-upholstered you could expect closer to $200USD to $300USD, which, I know, wouldn't cover the cost of the material. When your aunt purchased this piece the market was quite a bit different and Victorian furniture was valued differently than it currently is.
If you like the settee, I'd recommend recovering it and using it with love as this is a prime example of, 'They don't make them like they used to'.
If you have any follow-up questions, I am at your service and thank you for your submission.
Most Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
