This antique item is beautifully designed with a removable inner compartment. This allowed hot water to surround the soup. The item appears to be in the design of the Rococo period and is solid silver weighing 11lbs 2 oz . The approximate size is 11” x 16” x 10”
It was purchased in Britain from an unknown antique dealer and has been in my family since 1923.
Good morning, Denny,
Thank you for submitting photographs of your item for valuation at Mearto.
Based on the marks I can read, this was made in London between 1824-1825. The maker's marks are a little illegible but could be those of Jos. Craddock and William Reid, who were working in London at that time. The value I've assigned is based solely on the melt-value of the silver, and based upon the weight you've told me. I don't know if the ladle has the same marks - stylistically, it could be the same age as the tureen but it is very unusual for ladles to stay with tureens for 200 years.
This is a handsome tureen and if all the parts are original and it is complete, it might very well bring more money at auction.
I hope this information is useful to you. Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns. Thank you again for using Mearto.
