This was purchased by my Aunt who was a missionary in Tibet in the late 1940's to early 1950's. I have a letter from her in which she says she is going to buy a rug for each of her siblings. She refers to it as a "Bhotiyan carpet". It is 35" by 66" and in decent condition, having on a few frayed areas by the fringe on one end. It has never been cleaned, to my knowledge, and could probably use one but I have no idea how to do it.
It has been in my family home for my entire life and I inherited it when my parents passed away. For the past 20 years it has been in a cedar chest and I recently pulled it out for display in a spare bedroom.
Hi Wendy,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Yes, that is the correct name for this kind of rug. I would recommend having it cleaned professionally; you might call an Oriental rug dealer or two in your area to see if they can recommend someone.
