Description

I have a toddler size antique doll, which is over 100 years old she’s approximately 3 feet tall. Her body is in perfect condition. Her face is in very good condition and it was repaired once many years ago.

The DEP on the back of the head indicates that this doll, while made in Germany, was made for the French market.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An antique lifesized Simon & Halbig jointed composition doll
model # 5, made in Germany for the French market, circa 1869-1904.
All made of composition (papier-mache-type material) with black hair, sleeping eyes, painted features, wearing an Edwardian red-brown velvet dress with lace trim, stockings and white shoes. Marked to the back of the head
36 inches tall
CONDITION: client attests this doll has had repairs to its face previously. Otherwise, this doll appears to be in good condition.
PROVENANCE: inherited

OK I added the picture of the back of her head where the number is. My aunt had written it down. So if you can’t see it, it says SH1079DEP.

Hi, sorry, yes! Well, sort of...Simon & Halbig added the ampersand (&) to their doll marks in 1905 so those that don't have it - which it looks like yours doesn't - indicates it was made PRIOR to 1905...but more specifically than that, no I can't. I've updated the appraisal to indicate that.
