This is an antique sword cane, believed to be French. • Scabbard (Shaft): The outer shaft (scabbard) is made of dark tortoiseshell. Near the opening, there is a spiral metal wire inlay, which may be decorative or an antique repair. • Handle: The handle is fluted (melon-shaped) and appears to be made of a dark material (possibly horn, ebony, or part of the tortoiseshell) with a small, light-colored circular inlay (ivory or bone) at the center of the pommel. • Blade: The concealed blade is long, slender, and has a square cross-section (quadrangular). The blade is made of blued steel and features extensive gold inlay (gilding or damascene) in an intricate floral and scrollwork pattern down its length. Condition: The blade shows some age-appropriate surface pitting and some wear to the gold gilding, but the pattern is still very clear. The tortoiseshell shaft is in good condition with no major cracks or chips.
